Quick Facts About RF Microneedling

Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatments are one of the most popular minimally invasive anti-aging skin treatments today. This is due to its cost-effectiveness and ability to treat a wide range of skin conditions with minimal discomfort and downtime. If you’re considering rf microneedling packages to treat your aging skin, read on for the quick facts about this procedure.

How RF Microneedling Treatments Work

RF microneedling treatments introduce radiofrequency waves into the skin via tiny, controlled puncture wounds. These wounds are very tiny and cause minimal discomfort. However, the skin reacts to the small wounds by initiating a healing response which both increases blood flow and spurs the creation of new, collagen-rich tissue. The radiofrequency waves introduce controlled warmth, which speeds up the healing process.

As skin is remodeled, the newer tissue that appears is more resilient and higher in collagen and has increased elasticity. The newly-remodeled skin also is smoother with a more even texture and tone. For this reason, RF microneedling can also be used to treat acne scarring.

What RF Microneedling Treatments Feel Like

RF microneedling is considered a minimally invasive treatment and most patients resume their regular activities immediately after the procedure. When designing a course of treatment, a doctor will take a look at several factors including your aesthetic goals, your availability for treatments, your budget and other personal preferences. Most patients will undergo several treatments, each one spaced a few weeks apart.

Patients can expect most microneedling treatments to last from a half-hour to just over an hour from start to finish. Some doctors elect to use a topical numbing cream or ointment prior to treatment. No other sedation or anesthesia is needed.

During the treatment, the clinician will use a small device called a dermaroller. The dermaroller introduces both tiny punctures and radiofrequency waves as it is moved across the skin. Most patients report feeling little to no discomfort. You may also feel a warming sensation from the RF waves.

After treatment, the skin will be cleaned and the patient is given instructions for aftercare. The incidence of side effects for microneedling is extremely low but can include reactions to the creams, numbing agents or cleansers and minor bruising or soreness.

Results from RF Microneedling

Because this treatment stimulates the skin to remodel, results will not be seen immediately. Some patients do notice an improvement in skin texture within a week but the full results will not be visible for about a month after the final treatment session.
